El Derbi Barceloni usually rekindles old wars. FC Barcelona's refusal to sell Javier Saviola to RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, SAD only to lose him to Real Madrid C.F. on a Bosman transfer highlighted the hatred between the two Catalan clubs. Barca's monopolization of Catalanism is somehow hypocritical given that Espanyol was founded exclusively by Spanish fans unlike Barca - they owe much to Joan Gamper. The Camp Nou Stadium outfit may fault Espanyol for their royal patronage but again, dint they hire a man who played for Los Blancos - Luis Enrique? Remember they consider Real an extension of the establishment! Josep Maria Bartomeu may even find pleasure in removing the Spain flag from La Masia. Espanyol consider themselves as the zenith and epitome of Barcelona city and the entire Catalanism. Whenever the two Barcelona based teams play, Catalan bragging rights are usually at stake.
